HLTAID003 – Provide First Aid
Standard course options
This course is designed to provide you with the confidence, knowledge and skills necessary to provide first aid response, life support, management of casualty(s), the incident and other first aiders, until the arrival of medical or other assistance. This is the advised minimum requirement by Workplace Health & Safety Legislation for the workplace first aider. The course is suitable for the general public, students and corporate clients. On completion of this course you qualify as a Workplace First Aider. The Statement of Attainment is recognised throughout Australia.
Standard Course duration:
Option 1: Flexible Learning
6 hours face-to-face practical course + pre-course workbook (to be completed prior)
Option 2: Face-to-face Learning
15 hours face-to-face training
- How to assess an emergency in a first aid situation
- Manage an unconscious casualty
- Infection control
- Perform CPR effectively on an adult, child and infant
- Utilise an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
- Manage choking
- Manage bleeding
- Manage shock
- Manage anaphylaxis
- Manage acute illness: heart attack, stroke, diabetes, seizures…
- Manage head injuries
- Manage burns
- Manage fractures, dislocations, sprains and strains

Minimum age for participants is 14 years. A current Apply First Aid certificate is needed for a recertification course. The flexible learning component is completed online via a workbook. People who are busy find the online learning method very convenient.

Certificate valid for 3 years as per industry standard. The Australian Resuscitation Council recommends the HLTAID001 Perform Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation component is refreshed every 12 months.

Emergency Training Australia conducts progressive assessment throughout the course; this includes practical demonstrations as well as a multiple-choice assessment. Due to the practical components of the course participants are advised to wear comfortable casual clothing.
This qualification is nationally recognised. Provide first aid (Senior / Level2) is the national standard for workplaces throughout Australia. WorkCover recognises the following national units of competency as meeting the requirements for first aid courses under the OHS Regulation 2001:

HLTAID002 – Provide Basic Emergency Life Support
HTLAID001 – Perform CPR
Participants who successfully complete this qualification may be eligible for entry into further study such as: Certificate II in Emergency Medical Service First Response.
Nurses: HLTAID003 Provide First Aid has been endorsed by Royal College of Nursing, Australia, according to approved criteria. Completion attracts 15 RCNA Continuing Nurse Education (CNE) points as part of RCNA’s Life Long Learning Program (3LP).
