22101VIC – Course in Automatic External Defibrillation

Course description:

This course is designed to provide you with the confidence, knowledge and skills required to operate a semi-automatic defibrillator to defibrillate a casualty in an emergency. This includes advanced techniques for management of the administration of a semi automated external defibrillator (AED) in line with the requirements of the Australian Resuscitation Council and State and Territory regulatory bodies. This training also involves working with personnel who are engaged in the resuscitation of the casualty.

This course is suitable and highly recommended for individuals, companies and organisations where there is a defibrillator supplied onsite.

Standard Course duration:

4 hours face-to-face training

Refresher Course duration:

2 hour face-to-face training

Note: to qualify for a refresher course you would need to have an in-date certificate and bring it to the training session and submit a copy with student paperwork.

Course Content:

  • Management of an unconscious casualty
  • Resuscitation techniques, including CPR
  • Attach and operate defibrillation equipment
  • Safe procedure and effective use of an automated external defibrillator
  • Recover and restore equipment
  • Check defibrillation equipment


Minimum age for participants is 14 years.

A current certificate in: HLTFA311A Apply First Aid or HLTCPR211A Perform CPR or HLTCFA211A Provide Basic Emergency Life Support.

You will be required to bring the certificate of your training as evidence to enroll into this course.

Certificate validity

Certificate valid for 12 months as per industry standard. The Australian Resuscitation Council recommends a refresher course every 12 months.

Emergency Training Australia conducts progressive assessment throughout the course; this includes practical demonstrations as well as a multiple-choice assessment. The assessment process covers all the theory subjects of the course and the practical assessment covers CPR and use of automated external defibrillator. Due to the practical components of the course participants are advised to wear comfortable casual clothing.


This qualification is nationally recognised and workplace approved throughout Australia.

Statement of Attainment:
22101VIC – Course in Automatic External Defibrillation

Participants who successfully complete this qualification may be eligible for entry into further study such as: Certificate III in Public Safety (Fire Fighting and Emergency Operations) PUA30601.
